Dr. Michael Luick-Thrams, Director of the BUS-eum and the TRACES Center for History and Culture, will discuss several related yet different agrarian rebellions during the early years of the great Depression that mirrored rural folks' desperate attempts to survive. Examples include:

  • The "Farmers Holiday Association," which strove to increase farm-commodities prices through blockades.
  • The "Cow War," when dairy farmers violently stopped Federal agents from TB-testing their herds.
  • Organized "Penny Auctions," which tried to keep bankrupt farmers on their farms through collective action.

This presentation is part of the BUS-eum traveling exhibit on "Hidden or Forbidden No More: Prequels to the Greatest Generation." The BUS-eum will be stationed in the library parking lot and open for visitors on Tuesday, July 13, and Wednesday, July 14, from 11:00am - 6:00pm.
