Event Details

When Madeline Uraneck said ‘hello’ to the office cleaning lady, she had no idea she had taken the first step on a journey that led her to three countries abroad, an extended family on two continents, and into a family who taught her lessons she didn’t realize she needed to know. Looking back on a 25 year friendship with a Tibetan American refugee family in Madison, Wisconsin, Madeline counts the gifts they gave her and reflects on the power and importance of refugees, immigrants and newcomers. A couple of the family members will be present to give their perspectives of the journey. Tibetan butter tea will be served for attendees to sample and copies of the author's book, How to Make a Life: a Tibetan Refugee Family and the Midwestern Woman They Adopted, will be available for sale and signing.
