Embroidery Workshop with Ireri Andrea Muñiz Ortega

Mexico has a rich embroidery heritage. In this program, we will learn about two traditional embroidery styles from Central Mexico: Purépecha embroidery (from the state of Michoacán) and Tenango embroidery (from the state of Hidalgo). We will explore their meanings and some of the traditional stitches used, with guidance from Mexican textile artist Ireri Andrea Muñiz Ortega, who will share what motivated her to start learning embroidery and working with artisanal communities in Mexico.

México tiene una rica herencia en bordado. En este programa, aprenderemos sobre dos estilos tradicionales de bordado del centro de México: el bordado purépecha (del estado de Michoacán) y el bordado de Tenango (del estado de Hidalgo). Exploraremos sus significados y algunos de los puntos tradicionales que se utilizan, con la guía de la artista textil mexicana Ireri Andrea Muñiz Ortega, quien compartirá qué la motivó a comenzar a aprender bordado y a trabajar con comunidades artesanales en México.
