The U.S. is home to 11 National Scenic Trails, an elite group that includes the Appalachian and Pacific Crest Trails, plus our own Ice Age Trail. The trails range in length from 215 miles to 4,600, and are located all around the nation. Writer, author and hiking aficionado (and Sun Prairie resident) Melanie Radzicki McManus has thru-hiked four of the 11, thru-biked one and is currently section-hiking a sixth. She'll tell us all about these 11 trails, plus share some of the many adventures she's had along the way. Melanie is a freelance writer with a specialty in active travel and hiking. The author of "Thousand-Miler: Adventures Hiking the Ice Age Trail," she is in the midst of hiking all 11 of our National Scenic Trails. Melanie has won 4 Lowell Thomas awards for her travel journalism. These awards, akin to Pulitzer's, are considered the most prestigious in North America.
