Program Description

Event Details

Every year, the University of Wisconsin-Madison holds a common book program to engage students, faculty, and staff in a shared, academically focused reading experience, with local libraries partnering to extend the program out into the community. The 2021-2022 Go Big Read selection is Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi.

Transcendent Kingdom is a deeply moving portrait of a family of Ghanaian immigrants ravaged by depression and addiction and grief-- a novel about faith, science, religion, love. Exquisitely written and emotionally searing, this follow-up to Gyasi's phenomenal debut novel, Homegoing, was longlisted for the 2021 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction. We invite you to read the book and join us for a virtual discussion, led by a UW iSchool student.

Please register below to join us for this virtual discussion, and Zoom details will be emailed to you. Copies of the book are available for participants at the library's Information Desk.
