DESCRIPTION:The UNJUST DEEDS exhibit consists of 14 pull-up panels that tr
 ace the history of racial covenants, both nationally and locally. Racial c
 ovenants were an insidious tool for racially restricting home sales and se
 gregating residential neighborhoods. Essentially, a single cleverly-worded
  sentence inserted into a land deed of a subdivision plat could invoke the
  full force of the government’s police powers in enforcing racial segreg
 ation. Presented by Executive Director of the Dane County Historical Socie
 ty Rick Bernstein, this program will explore the history of racial covenan
 ts in Dane County and nationwide.
