Program Description

Event Details

The artist invites community members of all ages to sit for a short, timed portrait (not to exceed 15 min) that will be integrated into an art display at the Library during the residency duration. This collaborative, ongoing community portrait will grow in scale over the course of the project and offer a reflection of the richness and diversity of the Sun Prairie community. Civic, public and community groups would be encouraged to attend for a group portrait as well.
In conjunction with the artist’s drawings the public will be invited to a “Paired Portrait Drawing Event”.

-------------------

Paired Portrait Drawings is an event that encourages public participation and requires no previous drawing experience. Participants will be randomly paired up for a brief time to complete a “portrait drawing” of their community partner. They will rotate through a number of partners completing several portrait drawings. The idea of “portrait” is used loosely and the outcome of the portrait drawing may not result in a figurative drawing but rather an abstraction of the individual. Partners will be encouraged to exchange thoughts and observations on the ideas of connection. Registrants can come as they are but are also encouraged to dress for the occasion. If they are a member of a special organization or group (ie:Scouts, Lions Club, Veteran, Religious denomination, etc), have a favorite costume or item from their wardrobe that reflects their values or cultural identity, or simply garments that showcase the sitters personality.
