Sun Prairie Public Library 20th Anniversary Celebration Weekend!

Saturday & Sunday, May 18 & 19, 2019

As part of SPPL's 20th Anniversary Celebration Weekend, we have spectacular storytimes and all age program samplers in store for you! The 'party' gets started with storytimes in our Storytime Room and something meditative in our Community Room. The festivities continue with music, theater and celebratory receptions. Help us sing "Happy Birthday!" to the library and join the fun!


Storytime Spectacular

Saturday, May 18, 10-11:30am & 12:30-2pm, Storytime Room

Tons of storytime fun with Ms. Lynn and special guests!  You never know who you might see presenting books – you’ll have to come to find out! Stop in anytime for fun with books, songs, fingerplays, action rhymes, puppets, dramatics, and more!  In the Storytime Room.

 

Spectacular Program Sampler!

Saturday, May 18, Community Room

Mindful Movement, 10am

Join us for a 30-minute guided meditation with some gentle stretches that will calm and relax you. No need to wear special clothes or bring a mat. Suitable for ages 12 and up. Facilitated by Kathy Cherry, City of Sun Prairie Wellness Ambassador.

Uncontrolled Substances Concert, 11:30am

We're thrilled to welcome Madison's own eclectic cover band, Uncontrolled Substances as they make their Sun Prairie debut! Led by the vibrant vocals of former library employee, Nick Cherry.

Wanderlust: The Magic of Kundiman Performance, 2pm

Leslie Damaso sings with Mr. Chair in a set of re-imagined folk music of the Philippines.

Three Skit Surprise with Michael Herold, 3pm

Forward Theater's Michael Herold returns to delight us with three monologues that demonstrate his versatility and once again prove his comedic touch! A brief intermission will follow and a casual reception will conclude the celebration.

20th Anniversary Reception, 4pm, Community Room

Join us for a ceremony to honor those who provided the vision and the support to create our beautiful library. Refreshments will be served.

 

Open Activities, Youth Services Area.

Saturday, May 18, 9:30am-3pm

Get creative, crafty, and (cooperatively) competitive with us!  Do puzzles, create community art, make buttons, build with LEGOs™, play games, experience the ProWise Smart Board, and more! 

 

Sun Prairie Public Library Digital Slide Show and Exhibit. Welcome Area.

Saturday, May 18, 9am-5pm & Sunday, May 19, 1-5pm

Visit the exhibit case to witness first-hand all the activity and changes that have taken place over the past 20 years. New technology, services, circulation, staff, volunteers, programs, collections, design touches, and patron interactions have made an impact.  It will blow you away!

 

Friends of the Library Dick Wanless Memorial Writing Contest Reception

Sunday, May 19, 2pm, Renk Room

Throughout February and March, library users were encouraged to submit a short essay on the theme of "Why I Love My Library." At the Recognition Celebration, the Friends will present the three award-winning essays-- one for each age category-- and honor all of the essays submitted.

 

Sun Prairie High School Music Ensembles. Welcome Area.

Sunday, May 19, 1pm & 3pm

Enjoy music in the Welcome Area performed by our very own Sun Prairie High School ensembles.

 

All events are free and open to all. Registration is not required.
