Gather some positive energy and protection for your journey. Join Mars in constructing your own GrisGris!
Many cultures around the world utilize small pouches filled with a variety of healing tools. Seeds, words and special objects are some examples of these. Seeds and plants heal our lands and bodies; words provide encouragement, guidance and strength throughout our life’s journey, and special objects provide connections to purpose, family and intentions.
The Grisgris or GriGri were brought to America by enslaved Dagomba people of West Africa during the early 17th Century. Senegal, Mali, Nigeria, Ghana
The word “Grisgris” comes from a West African term “JuJu”; current day English translation: “sacred”.
All library programs are free and open to the public.
